Colin Stone plays with some of the finest jazz musicians in the country as a member of seven jazz big bands based in the South East.*

He has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Nottingham Albert Hall in a jazz suite written by American trombonist Herman Wilson.

 

The Colin Stone Trio - guitar, bass and drums - was recently formed to explore jazz standards to be arranged with colour, textures and contrasts while still allowing for improvisation and spontaneity. The performances have been well received recently by audiences at The Lingfield Jazz Club, The Vic in Arundel and the Slindon Music Club.

 

The trio is sometimes joined by other musicians such as pianists, singers, sax or trumpet players, for example. Colin also plays solo, in duos with singer, sax or double bass - or any combination thereof!

 

Colin has performed all over the world as a guitarist, playing in festivals in Vancouver, Hong Kong, Finland, Spain, Norway, Italy, Poland, Germany, the former Yugoslavia, Switzerland. He has appeared at the Barbican Concert Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall and at music clubs across the country. He has performed on radio and TV in the UK and many of the countries visited. 

 

As a Guildhall and Trinity College of Music Examiner he visited a great many countries too including Australia, India, Thailand, South Africa, Botswana and all over Europe.

 

He studied guitar and composition at the London College of Music, performed his own Guitar Concerto and was awarded the Lloyd-Webber Performance Medal. He has had works for guitar ensemble and solo guitar published, was a prize winner in a Domeq International Composition Competition and he has had pieces published including on Royal Academy and Guildhall syllabii.

 

Colin has played on cruises, including the QE2 and more recently a Mediterranean cruise with a jazz quintet. He has performed with a singer at a residency in Zermatt.
